The game will support permanent progressions, which also aligns more closely with the blockchain philosophy behind it.</p><p>Illuvium's community will remain at the center of the game's design, while the economy will focus more on value transfer. </div><h2>Combat Systems Get Complete Rework</h2><p>Illuvium Overworld's melee and ranged combat experiences were rebuilt from the ground up. The melee combat system received further polish, while the ranged combat got an entirely new aiming system. Overall, the goal behind these improvements was to maintain the ARPG feel without drifting into first-person shooter territory.</p><p>Illuvials themselves received expanded combat roles through new companion abilities. Illuvials now have broader action toolkits that give players more tactical options. The team acknowledged this area still needs work, particularly in strengthening the connection between Rangers and their Illuvials from both lore and gameplay perspectives.</p><p>Another notable addition is the drone system. Drones now also work as consumables, like health potions. The original Overworld featured massive jumps, but those will be no more.</p><p>Players now start with basic running and jumping mechanics. Double-jumps, slides, and hoverglides will be locked behind progression gates. Illuvium devs believe that slower movement will force players to engage more with content, as most players skipped through everything in the previous iteration of the game.</p><p>While veteran players may miss the mobility, the slower approach will also help with storytelling in the game, as it'll balance the pacing.</p><p>In addition to movement mechanics, there are also changes to items. Items now have increased stat variety, multiple rarity tiers, and upgrade paths. Quest integration has improved substantially, too. The team is building a proper player path that introduces the world's lore, explains the player's situation, and establishes purpose and goals.</p><p>The skill tree system is moving toward a node-based structure where players earn affinity and class points as they level. Gone are the days when all classes could use any weapon in the game.</p><p>Roles will be more determined moving forward, but the flexibility to split points between specializations or commit fully to one path will remain.</p><p>Wrapping up the October 7 Illuvium town hall, the devs marked late October as a critical evaluation period. This milestone will determine whether development continues in the current direction or requires adjustments. Regardless of the outcome, immediate priorities include combat polish, skill tree completion, UI updates across quests and inventories, and additional encounter design.</p><div class="raw-html-embed">
