<p>Axie Infinity developer, Sky Mavis, announced a $400,000 grant program this week to fund consumer applications on the Ronin blockchain. The Ronin Forge Innovation Grant targets teams developing everything from gamified DeFi platforms to&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/news/ai-agents-in-gaming-are-blowing-minds-top-artificial-intelligence-projects-changing-everything">AI agents</a>.</p><p>Selected teams for the grant program can receive up to $300,000 RON tokens and infrastructure support from partners like Chainlink and Tenderly. In addition to all these benefits, teams participating in the program will get advisory access from&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/games/Axie-infinity">Axie Infinity</a> and Pixels developers, two of the most successful&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/news/top-10-play-to-earn-games-in-2025">play-to-earn</a> games in the Web3 space.</p><div class="raw-html-embed">

While much of this success is thanks to Axie Infinity, recent projects on the network scaled from 5,000 to two million daily active users. Such developments cause more projects to consider switching to Ronin, and we have seen many examples of it with Fishing&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/news/fishing-frenzy-moves-to-ronin-network">Frenzy moving to Ronin Network</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.funjible.games/news/VOYA-Games-Migrates-Craft-World-to-Ronin-Blockchain">VOYA migrating Craft World to Ronin</a> as well.</p><h2>Sky Mavis' Route to Growth</h2><p>The Ronin Blockchain has a stacked lineup when it comes to games, but it still has room to grow when it comes to applications. Overall, the focus on execution over concepts reflects lessons from previous crypto cycles where many projects failed to ship actual products.</p><p>This isn't the first initiative from Sky Mavis, as the developer also had a $50,000 grant program in 2024 that&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/news/ronin-forge-ushers-in-the-great-gaming-migration">ushered the great gaming migration</a>. The program helped bring established games and projects to Ronin from blockchains like Base, Arbitrum, and more. Not only can these make players' lives easier, but they can also create additional value. When we think of such applications, modding scenes from the traditional gaming world comes to mind, which can drastically increase the replayability of games, even live-service titles. Sky Mavis Launches $400K Grant for Ronin Blockchain Apps

<p>The Ethereum-based NFT gaming protocol, Aavegotchi, has officially completed its migration to Base. Coinbase’s layer-2 network was originally released in 2023, and the partnership between the two ends Aavegotchi’s multi-year collaboration with Polygon.</p><p>Aavegotchi had been planning to move from Polygon to Base since April, according to&nbsp;<a href="https://decrypt.co/313913/ethereum-game-aavegotchi-polygon-base-geist">Decrypt</a>, and the decision was finalized following a DAO vote. Aavegotchi users showed overwhelming support, and the entire ecosystem recently became operational on Base.</p><div class="raw-html-embed">

</div><h2>Why Did Aavegotchi Leave Polygon?</h2><p><a href="https://funjible.games/games/aavegotchi">Aavegotchi</a> left Polygon because the developer team became concerned about declining DeFi and gaming activity on Polygon.&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.aavegotchi.com/aavegotchi-has-migrated-to-base/">The migration</a> also sunsets&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/news/Aavegotchi-Level-Up-Web3-Gaming-Members-only-Blockchain">Aavegotchi’s members-only blockchain, Geist</a>.</p><p>Aavegotchi’s team explained that while the idea of running their own Layer-3 network had potential, there were many trade-offs. There was a clear risk of isolating the ecosystem, while the developer overhead didn’t help Aavegotchi either.</p><p>The switch to Base happened seamlessly as users didn’t even need to take any action. Gotchis simply appeared in users’ Base wallets, with identical IDs and traits. With institutional and ETF interest looming over Ethereum, more members of the ecosystem could benefit from the spotlight. This also allowed Aavegotchi to offload its infrastructure concerns onto Base’s experienced engineering team, so Pixelcraft Studios can focus on building new experiences.</p><h2>Can you still use Polygon on Aavegotchi?</h2><p>No, all Aavegotchi smart contracts on Polygon are now frozen. Gameplay and transfers are now operational on Base. If you hold Aavegotchis, wearables, or FAKE Gotchi items on Polygon, they’ve been automatically mirrored to your Base wallet address.</p><p>Aavegotchi has been around since 2020, and the project has proven its ability to adapt, pivot, and survive. Numerous gaming-focused blockchains launched since then, while other big names, like Coinbase entered the space. Such developments can cause projects to think about their infrastructure decisions.</p><p>Similar to Aavegotchi, there have been plenty of games that moved blockchains over the last three years. More recently,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.funjible.games/news/VOYA-Games-Migrates-Craft-World-to-Ronin-Blockchain">VOYA Games’ Craft World migrated to the Ronin Blockchain</a>. Such decisions allow game developers to outsource their non-gameplay needs to parties who are more equipped to deal with them.
